The second RockAware pillar is the “Guard” pillar. Guard is to defend and take action against challenge or attack with assurance of God’s victory.

God himself is called the mighty warrior (Zeph. 3:17), a champion who prevails against his enemies (Isaiah 42:13). And he calls us to rise up in his strength as victors, not victims!

Guarding goes all the way back to the garden of Eden when God told Adam and Eve to take care of the garden and to keep it. The Hebrew word for keep is “shamar”, which means to watch over, to guard and protect.

God was teaching Adam and Eve to be aware of any intruders or enemies. He was preparing them ahead of time for the encounter they would have with the crafty serpent.

That serpent still shows up in our gardens of life today. Do we recognize him and his lies?

Do our children know the word of God and how to use it like a sword? Do we put on the armor we have because of Jesus’s triumphant work on the cross? Are we being proactive rather than reactive?

Teaching our children to guard their body, their heart and mind, and their spirit from temptation and attack is as important today as it always has been.

Often falling in the month of March, the biblical holiday Purim is celebrated. Described in the book of Esther, we see themes of courage & strategy, prayer & fasting, and the exposing and overcoming of evil schemes.

May we celebrate as they did, in how God has and will have the final say in the victory over every enemy!

Here’s a fun video recap of the book of Esther for kids.

Costumes anyone??

Purim is celebrated today and tomorrow!

Ever hear of Purim?  It’s actually a holiday in the Bible, found in Esther 9!  Jews have been celebrating it even before Jesus came. It commemorates the time when God’s people were saved from annihilation! It’s a time of great joy and feasting and giving gifts. Traditionally, it’s also a time for kids (and young at heart) to dress up in costumes!

WHY NOT CELEBRATE GOD’S WORD AS A FAMILY?

  • Read or act out the book of Esther together.
  • Dress up and make it fun!
  • Thank Him for being a God who always helps His people.
  • Put on an upbeat praise song and dance around!
  • Eat some delicious food your family enjoys.

Your children can watch or read the story of Esther:
