Grow, Grow, Grow in God’s Word

When I was a kid, they taught us a song at church that said something like, if you read your bible and pray every day, then you’ll grow, grow, grow!

And then there was a verse that said if you neglect your bible, forget to pray, then you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink! And, of course, we had fun shrinking to the floor as we sang the song.

It’s true. Anything we don’t feed or cultivate, will shrink.

Feeding our children nutritious food is one of the most basic needs we meet as parents. So, if you got a good meal on the table for your kids tonight, good job, parents!

Beyond our children’s growing bodies, the song we sang was talking about their spirits. Our spirits strengthen and grow as we spend time in the Word and talking to God.

When our children are little, we spoon feed them the Word until they are ready to start reading it on their own. It’s never too early to start! Even with a baby, you can show them a simplified board book bible and get them used to interacting with the word every night before bed or sometime each day.

There are so many choices on the market today for children’s Bibles and bible storybooks to make reading time interesting and developmentally appropriate for their age.  Check out 12 Bible Storybooks that we love.

If you want more tips on reading and instilling bible truths in very young children, you’ll want to check out our Rock-Solid Reading workshop. It’s available right now in the RockAware store.

It’s amazing how much children grow relationally and spiritually and in language and literacy when you simply read with them!
