Bible storybooks are an excellent way to introduce your young children to the stories and themes in God’s Word and to continually stir your child’s interest as they grow. Eventually, we encourage our children to read on their own and straight from the Bible text.  But, until that time, we cherish reading aloud together as a family!

Here’s a list of 12 Bible storybooks that we recommend for children ranging from 0-12 years old:

Bible storybooks for little ones

It’s never too early to start reading to your baby or toddler! Here’s a few simple choices.

1. BABY’S FIRST BIBLE

This Bible storybook is for babies and the youngest of toddlers and has 19 Old Testament stories and 22 New Testament stories.

One “story” consists of a stanza of four lines that rhyme. You can take 2 or 3 minutes to show your baby the cover and read the title, point out and name the objects or figures in the pictures opposite of the story, and finish with a reading of the little story.  This is a very simple way to introduce language and a love for reading God’s Word at a very young age.

Shepherd your little lambs through this baby’s Bible storybook of lullaby rhymes and precious illustrations! By introducing your toddlers to important characters—Adam and Eve, David and Goliath, Mary and Joseph, and Jesus—you’ll surround them in the comfort and knowledge of God’s love at an early age. Ages 2 and under. 93 pages, padded hardcover from Zonderkidz.

2. The ABC of God Loves Me

Also for babies and toddlers, this book contains one stanza of rhyming lines per page, highlighting a word from each letter of the alphabet.

For babies, you can read one page and emphasize the letter (say the letter, say its sounds, take your child’s finger and trace the letter) and the word (or other words) that starts with the letter, and point out the objects in the pictures.

For toddlers, you can read as much as they show interest in. (This really applies for your babies, too.  Follow their lead.)  I’ve read the whole book in one sitting for my daughter.

3. Read-Aloud Bible Stories

The Bible also features beautifully painted illustrations and excellent comprehension and application questions for your times of reading as a family.

This new devotional in The One Year line for families with children ages 5-8 combines beautiful four-color illustrations with skilled writing from best-selling author Gil Beers. Every day’s reading features a three-part discussion section: “Remember” (to recall factual information); “Discover” (to learn a lesson that relates to today); and “Apply” (to apply to the child’s own situation). This is a format that Gil Beers established in the full-text edition, The Bible for Children. Classic Bible art from that project is reused in this edition.
