Our Curriculum

“The word curriculum most likely brings up images of textbooks and workbook pages in people’s minds.  But the curriculum in my dream came packaged in a board game box.  RockAware curriculum may include the books we read, but it’s also the stuff of life.  It’s the games we play and the music we move to.  We embrace the creativity of God to teach our children in different, sometimes unconventional, ways.  If we are willing to seek Him, God is giving parents the tools to train up their children like never before.”

-An excerpt from Michelle’s RockAware and Refugees article

Every day a child is learning…even if by default.

Their experiences and relationships will begin to lay a foundation in their heart and mind, and a set of core values will emerge from there.

Every day we have the opportunity as parents to teach and to build.

We can build up our homes where the family gathers and the Spirit of God is welcome.  We can also help build fortresses in the hearts of our children that store and guard the Word of God there.

Is it not the ultimate goal of every Christian parent to raise their children to know the Lord and prepare them for their future?  Do we not want our youth to have a mindful awe of the Lord, something that they will carry with them into every area of their life?

But, what values are we building in them? And what skills are we passing on?

What is this upcoming generation going to need to know?  And what things will they need to be able to do?  How will they stand strong in the Lord?  And will they actively build God’s kingdom in their time, regardless of the challenges they will face or the culture that is constantly shifting around them?

Bricks and Mortar: The Word and Relationships

At Rock Aware, we are developing blueprints, tools, and materials to put in your hands, so you can begin to build the right foundation as a family.

We want to give our children not only the “bricks” of what they need to know, but the mortar that makes them stick together.  We believe the mortar is giving them what they need to know in the context of real, thriving, loving relationships.  A relationship with the Lord.  Encounters with the Holy Spirit. Relationships with Dad, Mom, other loving adults that forge those treasures of knowledge with powerful experiences and memories.

We won’t be perfect parents, but we rest in the Father who is perfect.

Parenting the next generation will require prayer and surrender.   At the end of the day, we must trust that the seeds that have been planted will return as a harvest in our children.  Aspects of the building will be between them and God.  But, we can help you become very intentional about reinforcing certain concepts and skills, month after month and year after year.
